Dr. Britt Brockman, from John-Kenyon, is a cataract specialist with broad expertise in numerous ophthalmic medical and surgical procedures. He was also a registered pharmacist prior to his journey into medicine. Dr. Brockman has performed more than 53,000 cataract surgeries, is a regular lecturer on ocular issues and has been a researcher on numerous national drug studies and ocular devices.
Dr. Brockman built his Ophthalmic practice from 2 offices in 1992 to its current size of 32 offices across Kentucky and southern Indiana. Dr. Brockman’s leadership in his community and profession were recognized by Business First of Louisville, which named him one of the region’s most influential health care leaders 4 years running. In 2015 he was named as the most outstanding Ophthalmologist by Louisville magazine.
Dr. Brockman, a native of Hodgenville Kentucky, is a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy where he served as student body president and student member on the UK Board of Trustees. He then attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he was a recipient of the Thomas C. Calhoun Scholarship. He served his residency at Louisiana State University, where he spent his final two years as chief resident. He volunteered and served as a major in the U.S. Army Reserves 4010th US Army Hospital and participated in Operation Desert Shield.
Dr. Brockman has spent his adult life giving back to the community as he has served as president of Walden k-12 school, Chairman of Eliahu Jewish k-8 school and president of Adath Jeshurun Synagogue. As well, he dedicated the Brockman Center of Campbellsville University in his hometown of Hodgenville, the Brockman Business Center Wing of Adath Jeshurun and the Brockman Senate Chamber at the University of Kentucky in his parents’ honor.
In 2008, Dr. Brockman was appointed to serve on the UK Board of Trustees. In 2010 he was elected as Chairman of the Board and immediately was thrust into leading the process of a presidential search to replace the outgoing president of ten years. This culminated in the selection of UK’s current president Dr. Eli Capilouto. Since then Dr. Brockman has been elected and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for eight of the last nine years where he still searves as chair. During this period (which occurred during 5 years of consecutive state budget cuts and the worst economy since the Great Depression ) the UK community experienced unprecedented growth (under the leadership of President Capilouto and the board) through creative public private partnerships, responsible stewardship, and creative thinking.
Dr. Brockman is married to his wife Mary (a neurosurgeon) and they are raising a family in Louisville, KY.
